The title of this entry might sound familiar to some people...
I was thinking about what I wanted to write for this week, especially since I will be going out of town this weekend. Did I want to do an evening stay in on a horror film where they travel (such as Turistas)? Maybe... or should I do an entry on several horror films in general in connection to traveling? But then the idea came to me...JOY RIDE! The 15th anniversary of this film was just celebrated the other day. It just seemed perfect to do. My dad is the one who introduced me to movies and is why I am such a huge movie lover. He showed me this film when I was younger, and I loved it! I actually used to watch it in the car every time we took a long road trip. We also liked to watch the commentary of this film, which I highly suggest watching, especially if you're a fan of Steve Zahn. And now, for you're (short) feature presentation....
Joy Ride was released on October 5th, 2001.
Directed by John Dahl and written by J.J. Abrams and Clay Tarver. Main Cast: Steve Zahn, Paul Walker, and Leelee Sobieski. Interestingly, Ted Levine is the voice of, Rusty Nail, while Matthew Kimbrough is the one who physically plays him.
That's it for today's post. If you're about to take a road trip, I suggest watching this! But then again, I suggest watching it any other time.
Safe travels!

Something that I've been wanting to do for this blog, is a "Sunday Stay In"
If you're like me and enjoy your lazy Sunday's, what better way to spend it than watching a movie? Originally, I wanted to do this every Sunday, but because of my schedule, I know I will not be able to. However, (like today) I plan on having random days to replace my "Sunday Stay In" I really wanted my first entry for it to be on an actual Sunday, but that did not end up happening. I did actually watch the movie on Sunday though, so that counts for something! And now to introduce one of my favorite movies for my first, Sunday Stay In....
Yesterday morning, while I was enjoying the crisp, chilly, fall air, I was thinking about this movie. I could not believe I haven't had my annual October viewing of this film. Night of the Living dead is normally the first horror movie I watch when October hits.
It felt like the perfect day to watch it, which the opening scene confirmed that for me. In the beginning when Johnny and Barbara are driving through the cemetery, I ALWAYS feel a sense of fall when I watch it. There is just something about it, that makes me feel as if I am there. I know in my previous entry, I stated how I am horrible at summarizing, but I feel it is essential to do so. With that being said, some parts will be summarizing, and some will be more so showing specific scenes. There is also some trivia, and a segment from one of my favorite specials! ***Spoilers ahead. Proceed with caution*** As mentioned before, the beginning of the movie starts with Barbara (Judith O'Dea) and Johnny (Russell Streiner) whom are siblings going to a cemetery for their yearly visit at a gravestone. This scene holds one of my favorite all time movie quotes.
Sorry Johnny! But unfortunately you are the one they got.
Snap.
While trying to get away from this "man" that attacked her brother and is trying to attack her, Barbara discovers a house. In this house, she finds a dead body and she basically spends this point on in fear and shock.
After running out of the house, Ben (Duane Jones) pops up and gets Barbara back into the house whilst "zombies" or "ghouls" or "flesh eaters" are swarming outside of the house.
He then boards up the windows and such, while trying to calm her down (which will end up being a reoccurring thing). While this is going down, turns out there are others hiding in the cellar!
There are the Coopers: Helen and Harry, along with their sick child, Karen.
There is also, Judy and Tom (whom are presumingly a couple). There is a significant scene where Harry is arguing with Ben and Tom about the cellar being the safer place than the ground level floor they are on. Ben even stated the cellar is a "death trap" I will be referring back to this scene later in the entry. After more arguing, barricading the house, and discussing the issues at hand, the group discovers some important information from a television broadcast... "It has been established that persons who have recently died have been returning to life and committing acts of murder." There are also rescue stations to help keep safe from these flesh eaters. The group then prepare to leave to a rescue center in Willard, which is 17 miles away. Long story short, Tom and Judy end up dying in a truck explosion, while trying to fuel the truck to get to Willard.
Poor Tom and Judy. I liked those two.
Another important piece of information from a television broadcast..
"Kill the brain and you kill the ghoul."
(I've always liked these type of scenes in movies)
While the flesh eating ghouls are trying to break through the boarded doors and windows trying to get into the house, Harry grabs a gun and tells his wife to get to the cellar. Ben then gets the gun out of his hand, and shoots him.
Harry falls down into the cellar where his "sick" daughter ends up eating him. Remember that scene where Harry argues that the cellar is the safe place to be? How ironic. Unfortunately, Helen gets killed by her daughter as well in this absolutely creepy, horrific scene.
Johnny's back! But unfortunately he takes Barbara with him. Bye Barbara!
The house gets swarmed with the ghouls, and Ben ends up locking himself in the cellar after all.
He survives! Yaay Ben survives! Until the very ending, which still gets to me no matter how many times I watch it. A group is going around killing the zombies, they see Ben in the house and shoot from far away, thinking he is a zombie. WAHHHH WHYYYY WHY DIDN'T YOU CHECK TO SEE IF HE'S HUMANNNN?! That is the end of the movie, which is followed by creepy stills of the aftermath. Trivia

That is it for this post!
See you ghouls later! Hello all! Or at least to the one person who may come across this. I woke up this morning excited that it is now October! As I was looking for a funny picture related to a horror movie, or horror villains to post on my personal social media pages, this blog popped into my head. I will be completely honest, I made this website and the related social media pages for a school project. I intended on continuing writing blogs and posting on my social media pages, however once I did my presentation, it dropped off. I ended up neglecting it to continue focusing on my other classes and on graduation. After I graduated from my university, I focused on other things. Now that it's October (even though I love the entertainment world of horror all year round) I thought it would be fun to pick this back up again! I will probably not use these pages to "brand" myself, as it was originally created for, but more so for myself. If people come across these pages and enjoy what I write, awesome! If not, it is okay because I am enjoying this and getting back into writing in connection to something I love. I will probably be messing around with this in the beginning because to be honest I forgot how to even operate this website! I also do not like writing opinion pieces and am HORRIBLE at explaining things (even summarizing my all time favorite movie) so these blog entries might...be all over the place. In addition to this blog post, I am going to add a little something about a movie I watched last night. See below. Suspiria is a 70's Italian "giallo" horror movie directed by, Dario Argento. I am going to make the plot and information short and sweet for today's entry :) Suzy (Jessica Harper), a girl from New York, goes to Germany to attend a ballet school. While attending this school, she starts to notice weird instances while also feeling unexplainably sick. Her and another student Sara (Stefania Casini), who is also suspicious of everything going on, try to figure out the secret this school seems to hold. The discovery is unexpected and may leave you surprised. One of the reasons I do not like writing opinion pieces, or reviews I should say, is that I usually am just point blank with how I feel about a movie. "Yes, I liked it." "No, I do not like it." Of course, I will provide examples here and there for each response, but I do not like to go into summary mode with my reasonings. So basically, yes I like this movie and recommend it :) If you have not seen this movie, please watch the trailer below and see for yourself if it is something you would want to watch: One of my favorite things about this movie is the visuals. Boy are they beautiful! That is all for today's entry!
Happy October! *To see where the pictures are retrieved from, please hover over the picture and click. Well...by they... I mean me. This is my first post on my new horror blog! I am excited to post different things about the horror entertainment world. I will have posts about different types of horror movies, television shows, news, directors, etc. Since this is new, my ideas might change from time to time. I'm figuring everything out but overall I hope you enjoy my blog!
I hope to be doing my next post within the next couple of days, so stay tuned! Also, please check out my social media pages! Thanks! -Brittany |
